We recommend discontinued use of all topical retinoids (i.e., Retin-A), and acid exfoliants (i.e., glycolic acid), for one week before your Cosmelan Peel appointment.

Typically around the three-week mark, you’ll return for a follow-up visit. During this time – especially if your results are not quite there yet – your provider may apply a second round of the Cosmelan 1 mask or use it to spot treat certain areas for more dramatic results.

To preserve the results of your peel, we always suggest our patients continue to apply Cosmelan 2 daily for up to one year to help suppress any additional melanin production.

The most critical to your results and how long you can enjoy them will be limiting or protecting against sun exposure. Make broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, like Elta MD, part of your daily beauty routine to reduce any new sunspots from developing.

This two-step system contains powerful ingredients like azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, arbutin, and titanium dioxide) that penetrate deep into the skin serving to:

• Treat skin hyperpigmentation you can see now by stimulating cell turnover to help eliminate melanin already accumulated in the visible layers of the skin – i.e., fading existing sun spots, age spots, or melasma (“the mask of pregnancy”).
• Prevent future skin hyperpigmentation by decreasing the natural production of the tyrosinase enzyme, your melanin levels will become regulated, no longer causing blotchy areas of hyperpigmentation.

It’s common to feel some warmth and mild tingling while the peel treatment is applied in-office. For about a week following your treatment, you’ll experience the side effects of redness, tightness, and peeling.
