Total Body
Lift
Total
body lift is fast becoming a popular option following the increasingly
popular gastric bypass procedure. For those who have lost huge
amounts of weight, there is often an emotional reminder of their
obesity from the excess skin that is left behind. Excess skin
is a common occurrence after major weight loss and can be remedied
with specialized body contouring surgical procedures. Total
body lift is also performed on patients as a result of aging
skin that loses its elasticity with time and appears droopy
and extremely loose in multiple areas of the body.
The procedure removes excess skin and re-contours
the areas of the abdomen, back, hips, upper thighs and buttocks.
Excess skin can appear as a result of age, pregnancy or following
excessively large amounts of weight loss. Many patients who have
undergone the gastric bypass procedure are left with large amounts
of loose, hanging skin folds in all parts of the body. The majority
of this skin appears on the lower body and torso but can also
be prominent on the arms, face and breasts.
This sagging skin on the body can cause much
discomfort to patients who have gone through the lengthy and
difficult period of weight loss. The skin can cause infection,
rash, irritation underneath the folds of the abdomen, breasts,
buttocks and back. Body lift can correct this condition in many
areas by removing skin and re-contouring the entire trunk and
dramatically reshaping the body to create a more proportionate,
slender and firmer look.
You can learn more
about the various total body lift procedures within this website
by going to Surgery of the Breast and Surgery of the Body. In
those sections you will be able to educate yourself on specific
procedures that address large amounts of excess skin. Some of
these procedures include:
Abdominoplasty, Arm Lift, BackPlasty, Breast
Lift, Buttocks Lift and Thigh Lift.
Some of these procedures can be performed
together but body lift is not usually performed with other procedures
at the same time. Your surgeon will most likely stage additional
procedures for safety, less risk of complications and better
healing.
