Liabiaplasty
(Labia
Reduction)
Some women are born
with enlarged labia while others experience an increase in size
of the labia from childbirth, aging, or sexual intercourse.
Enlarged labia can be a very sensitive issue for many women
and cause everyday discomfort emotionally and physically. Labiaplasty
surgery is performed to achieve reduction in labia size for
comfort and to provide a better appearance.
Who is a candidate for labiaplasty?
- Women who experience irritation, discomfort in clothing,
or pain during sexual intercourse due to the large size of the
labia.
- Women who have enlarged or torn labia and are embarrassed
about the appearance. As a result, this embarrassment may affect
sexual intimacy.
- Women who experience discomfort when performing activities
such as exercise, swimming and other sports.
The procedure
Labiaplasty involves correction of the labia
minora (inner lips). The procedure is usually performed under
general anesthesia. An incision is made in the labia minora (the
skin surrounding the vaginal opening) to reduce and reshape labial
edges resulting in a smaller appearance and more comfortable
size. Incision sites on the labia are typically undetectable.
How will I look and feel after surgery?
- No dressings are needed and the pain is virtually none or
simply mild.
- The incision is barely noticeable and will disappear over
time.
- You will have normal sensation in your labia. For some, sensation
is enhanced.
- This is an outpatient procedure and patients return HOME
immediately after surgery.
- Swelling is mild peaking at about two to three days then
dissipating over the next three to four weeks.
When can I get back to my everyday
activities?
- Regular, mild activities and work can be resumed within about
5 days.
- Intercourse should be avoided for about 4-6 weeks.
Results of your surgery
Labiaplasty can correct the condition of
enlarged labia. As a result many women report more confidence
and increased self-esteem. Additionally, the procedure will eliminate
the daily discomfort associated with enlarged labia including
difficulty in performing sports, wearing tight-fitting clothing
and irritation. Women also reported to improve sexual relations
by eliminating embarrassment and discomfort that was present
prior to surgery.
Your results will last a liftetime.
