Chin
& Cheek Implants
Improving individual
features through chin and cheek implants can give patients the
balanced look they’ve
been seeking. Implants are designed to change the basic shape
of the face, adding or restoring contour and/or proportion. Often,
implants are used in conjunction with other procedures, such
as facelift or rhinoplasty (nose reshaping).
Chin implants can
change the look of a patient’s
nose, which is why many patients undergoing nose surgery will
also choose to enhance or minimize their chin.
Candidates for Chin or Cheek implants
- Older patients who undergo a facelift can diminish a sunken
look in their face with cheek implants, giving them a more youthful
appearance.
- Patients who wish to strengthen their profile and jaw-line.
- Those who have a very receding chin or no defining features
to the facial cheek area, and who feel extremely self-conscious
about their facial features as a result.
- Patients wishing to compliment their nose reshaping procedure
to create better facial balance.
How will I look and feel after surgery?
- After inserting a chin implant, the
patient’s chin
is taped and wrapped from the chin up around the head to minimize
swelling and discomfort. Talking, eating and smiling may be
uncomfortable for the first few days.
- Sutures in the chin are removed after five to seven days.
If an intra-oral incision is used, the sutures will dissolve
usually within 10 days.
- After inserting cheek implants, mouth movement will be limited
temporarily.
- It takes several weeks to see the results of your surgery,
sometimes months, but the results are worth the wait.
When can I get back to my everyday
routine?
- While patients feel ready to resume regular activities within
a few days, it is recommended that activities that jar or bump
the face be limited in the first few weeks.
- Patients may return to work within a week after surgery.
Results of my surgery
Patients who choose
to undergo chin and/or cheek implant surgery will notice stronger
facial features and a more well-defined jaw line. Facial
implants can help to achieve facial contour giving patients
better proportion to nose, cheeks, jaw and neckline.
